Ambubachi Mela
Glimpse the Tantric traditions of a fertility festival
The Ambubachi Mela is an annual Hindu gathering at the Kamakhya temple that celebrates the menstrual cycle of a goddess (seriously!). A tantric fertility festival, the Ambubachi Mela draws devotees from across the country to the city of Guwahati on the banks of the Brahmaputra. One can witness some awe-inspiring tantric feats, glimpse sadhus who otherwise live in seclusion, and watch the curious traditions of the temple.
