Sunset at Shanti Stupa
Delve into Japanese & Ladakhi forms of Buddhism
Shanti Stupa literally means the Peace Pagoda, and it was built in the 1990s to enshrine Lord Buddha’s relics and resurrect Buddhism in India. Built by the Japanese and Ladakhi Buddhists, the stupa denotes the ‘dharma chakra’ – the turning wheel of cosmic law and order and the life cycle of the Buddha – offering a glimpse into the philosophies that define this religion.
At sunset, the Stupa presents as a vantage point for a brilliant spectacle of Leh town. The air carries a crisp chill as the golden light blankets Leh’s alleys, monasteries, and vibrant markets, painting a beautiful sight of the town against a backdrop of towering mountains.
