Curator Led Walk: Royal Opera House

Step into Mumbai's iconic performance venue of the past & present

A baroque-style structure, the Royal Opera House once exclusively hosted delightful opera performances for the British elite. As India’s only surviving opera house, this building is a vestige of the colonial era. Later, it also showcased the premiers of several Bollywood films, live theatre performances and even a fashion show. After a last performance in the early 1990s, the Opera House was declared an endangered architectural site by the World Monuments Fund. In October 2016, post extensive restoration, the Royal Opera House has reopened its doors as a cultural space.

Travel Scope can organize an exclusive curator-led walk into the Royal Opera House. The curator will tell of the history of the Royal Opera House, and its resurrection into one of Mumbai’s most sought-after performance venues that is bringing back the era of the yesteryears.
