Thiruvananthapuram
A former trading city of sandalwood, spice & ivory
Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum is one of the oldest cities in India, once known for its trade in sandalwood, spices and ivory. Its name is derived from temple with a statue of Lord Vishnu, the sustainer reclining upon the serpent, Anantha, which is an iconic landmark in the city. Its appeal lies in its proximity to other tourist destinations like Kanyakumari, Kovalam and Varkala beach.
