Nashik, was a city of great significance since the Vedic times; it finds mention in the great epic, Ramayana, ancient poets like Valmiki, Kalidasa and Bhavabhooti offered it great tributes in their verse, was a province under the Mughal empire, and was the ‘land of the brave’ in the times of the Maratha empire. Today, Nashik is one of the holy cities where the celebrations of the Kumbh Mela – a festival of grand cleansing and invocations, occur, It is  also known for its silver craftsmanship, some relic temples and thriving vineyards – and India’s first, local made wines.
