A city at the confluence of 3 sacred rivers
One of India’s oldest cities, Allahabad is located at the confluence of three sacred rivers: the Ganges, the Yamuna and the mythical, subterranean Saraswati. With a mention in the ancient scriptures, as also both India’s epic poems, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, Allahabad is the literary capital of the state and has achieved a hallowed status for pilgrims, especially during the 12 year celebrations of the Kumbh Mela – the festival of the pot of ambrosia.
