Tawang is a town that lies on the border between India, China and Bhutan, each with their own influences that are still in evidence today and can trace its name and its origins to the monastery perched on its western ridge. Known as the land of the Monpas, the indigenous, mountain-dwelling tribe, Tawang has a rich tradition of art, culture and traditional crafts. With an inaccessible terrain and the last swathes of rainforests in north-east India, Tawang is a haven for endemic flora and fauna, and for wildlifers.
