Dussehra in Mysore

Dussehra in Mysore

Celebrate Mysore's most vibrant festival of good v/s evil

Mysore’s Dussehra celebrations are vibrant and colourful – after all, the city derives its name from the slayed demon, Mahishasur, whom the goddess fought in the epic 9-day battle. Mysore’s festivities were initiated as a tradition under King Raja Wodeyar I in 1610. A traditional procession of the Goddess Chamundeshwari astride an elephant passes through the streets, followed by a torchlight parade. The streets during these 10 days come to life with colourful stalls, fun-fair attractions, exhibitions, wrestling tournaments – and the Mysore Palace is illuminated with over a million lights!
